GRANDMAS' GRACES: spin off I
sonic composition x violin

This project delves into the underrepresented history of political and societal pressures in Thailand, centered on my grandmother Kee, born in 1932 to a Chinese father and a Chinese-Mon mother. Through the voices of Grandmother Kee, her two daughters, an unrelated individual who faced similar challenges, and a respected Thai-Chinese historian, the narratives explore their experiences of poverty, resilience, and the struggle for recognition in Thai society. These often-overlooked stories shed light on the perseverance of those who rose above adversity despite not being fully recognized as "Thai."

BANGKOK ARRIVAL

Bangkok is a city of striking contrasts, almost like many cities within one. Diverse areas and neighborhoods coexist side by side, each offering a unique experience. On one hand, Bangkok can be enjoyed in comfort and luxury—you can arrive by flight or car and immerse yourself in its modern amenities. But there’s also another side to the city.

In the quiet local neighborhood near Wongwienyai railway station, "Bangkok Arrival" offers a glimpse into the lives of lower-income citizens, some arriving on run-down, non-air-conditioned trains in the sweltering heat, hoping to find better work in the capital. Though you may think you've found a peaceful corner of Bangkok, being close to the railway station means the periodic noise is never far away. It’s quieter than much of the city, but even here, life is always bustling with activity.
